Medicare’s Assignment of Benefit for bulk billing reforms: support resources now available

The Australian Federal Government is introducing specific requirements for practitioners who bulk bill Medicare patients from 1 July 2027.

From this date, patient written assignment will be required for physician bulk billed private services either before, during or post-delivery of service in order for the Medicare rebate to be allocated to a treating practitioner.

A transition period allowing for patient verbal assignment is now in place pending the reform.
