The College has developed its 2026 Victorian Election Statement, which outlines practical recommendations to address workforce shortages, strengthen specialist training pathways, improve access to care in regional and rural communities, support physician wellbeing, and expand community-based models of care.

To progress these priorities, the RACP met with both the Victorian Minister for Health, the Hon Ingrid Stitt MP, and the Shadow Minister for Health, Ms Georgie Crozier MLC, to discuss the key priorities from the election statement and explore opportunities.

College representatives discussed the challenges facing Victoria's specialist physician workforce and opportunities to improve healthcare access. Conversations focused on strengthening regional physician training pathways, addressing workforce maldistribution, supporting sustainable models of care, and improving access to specialist services closer to where people live.

These discussions provided an important opportunity to share the experiences of physicians and trainees, as well as practical solutions informed by successful regional training networks and initiatives that support trainees to live, train and work in regional communities.
