New HIV position statement

The Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine has launched its Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Position Statement [PDF]. It outlines evidence and policy on ending HIV transmission and improving care and health outcomes for people living with HIV and calls on governments and relevant agencies in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to fully fund free universal access to HIV healthcare services.
Our position statement also calls for funding and support for the implementation of innovative, evidence-informed, and equitable multidisciplinary models of care for HIV prevention and management as well as education campaigns and policy and legislative protections to address HIV stigma and discrimination.
All healthcare professionals can contribute to ending HIV and improving the health of people living with HIV by recognising clinical indicator conditions, talking to communities about testing and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), and by helping to eliminate stigma.
