Physicians congratulate new QLD Gov, call for action on health workforce to support patient outcomes

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) has congratulated the incoming Liberal-National government in Queensland and has called on Premier David Crisafulli to prioritise reforms that will help strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
Adjunct Professor Tony Rahman, chair of the RACP's Queensland Committee, said addressing the state's healthcare workforce shortage must be the Crisafulli Government's top priority.
“Patients across Queensland, especially in regional and remote parts of the state, have to wait for weeks and often travel for hours to see a medical specialist.
“Unless bold and urgent action is taken to strengthen and support Queensland’s healthcare workforce, this problem will worsen.
“We’re calling on the incoming government to invest in retention and attraction measures which will help address the state’s healthcare workforce shortage.
“Physicians and other medical professionals across Queensland strive each day to provide the best possible care to patients.
“Meeting growing healthcare needs requires a focus on workforce, and appropriate overall health system resourcing by the Crisafulli Government, in consultation with medical experts, to support equitable health outcomes across Queensland.
“We look forward to working with the incoming government and helping deliver positive health outcomes for all Queenslanders,” A/Prof Rahman said.
