‘Impacting health along the life course’ is the focus of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ Annual Congress 2019, which starts in Auckland today.

New Zealand and Australia’s foremost medical experts will present on a wealth of topics to inform and challenge our health conversation ahead of the Wellbeing Budget later this month.

Highlights of the three day conference include:

• The launch of ‘Early Childhood: The importance of the early years’, a substantial set of policy recommendations for the New Zealand and Australian governments for improving early development and child health, with a focus on child poverty issues
• Sir Mason Durie’s opening keynote: ‘Indigenous knowledge and science: Doctors at the interface’ will draw on his vast experience spent improving health outcomes, wellbeing and education in Māori communities
• Wednesday’s session exploring burnout prevention and managing mental, physical and social wellbeing for medical professionals will offer expert insight post-Junior Doctors’ strike from the RACP
• A comprehensive discussion on tackling the obesity epidemic, covering where our current approach is failing, a range of solutions and first-hand experiences from people who’ve experienced this stigma
