This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join the New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) as a Donor Medicine Specialist (DMS).
This role will suit an experienced clinician looking for a new opportunity to develop their career within a supportive team with a high level of expertise. Full specialty specific training, with ongoing collegial support will be provided.
You'll join our highly regarded team which includes Transfusion Medicine Specialists, hospital-based Transfusion Nurse Specialists, and Clinical Nurse Specialists (Donor Health). This role will be based in Christchurch, at one of our largest blood centres. You'll be encouraged to develop expertise in specialist areas according to personal and professional priorities and interests in the context of organisational objectives.
As part of the Clinical Services team, led by the Chief Medical Officer, you'll deliver high-quality clinical support for donation services (including blood, plasma and tissue donation) on both national and regional levels. Your work will require leadership, a focus on continuous improvement, and communication with a range of stakeholders, including regular communication with donors about health and escalated matters as well as educating blood collection staff and rotating haematology registrars.
Salary starting from $142,683 - $250,560 depending on skills, registration, and experience\
Location
The NZBS Christchurch Centre provides blood and plasma processing, testing and specialist services for the South Island as well as being one of our largest donation centres. The service includes an active clinical apheresis unit, stem-cell processing and a therapeutic venesection programme.
Essential qualifications
- Registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand in either a General or Vocational Scope.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and a background in an area such as general practice, infectious diseases, public health, or epidemiology.
- Experience in other clinical specialities will also be considered.
This position is intended to be at a specialist consultant level, but candidates with appropriate experience who might not be at this level will also be considered.
