Read the highlights of key issues discussed at the RACP Board meeting on 21 June 2024.
Executive General Manager, Education Learning Assessment (ELA), Professor Inam Haq FRACP, retiring College Education Committee Chair, Associate Professor Mitra Guha FRACP and Rebecca Udemans from the ELA team presented three governance models that came from the Education Governance Review.
The Review included consulting with College Council, our Divisions, Faculties and Chapters, and our members. The consultation feedback alongside the draft AMC report to the RACP and the legal and regulatory ramifications of each of the models were all presented to the Board and informed the development of the three potential models.
In line with the recommendation of the Review, the Board approved the Blended Governance Model which aligns with the core role of the College in the provision of education and the Colleges Strategic Plan. The Board also noted the importance of ensuring key risks are managed and mitigated and concerns raised by the Faculties and Aotearoa NZ are adequately acknowledged and addressed.
This approval signals an important change to enable the RACP to deliver on core education, improve the oversight and monitoring of training and be aligned with the requirements of the AMC. The ELA team together with the CEO and other parts of the RACP will support Divisions, Faculties, Chapters and Aotearoa NZ with this significant first key step in the streamlining of education governance.
The Board agreed that the College Council Chair share the member voice with the Board following Council meetings to improve communication between the Board and Council. This will enable the member voice to be better heard by the Board.
Our interim CEO Steffen Faurby provided updates and information on the key projects under the operational plan. Updates were provided on the IT Technology Project and the Workplace Safety and Wellbeing project. The Board noted the indicative program of work and costing for the implementation of the RACP Bullying, Discrimination and Harassment Action Plan. It also noted the Health and Wellbeing update.
The Board accepted the May 2024 accounts which showed a net surplus and sufficient cash and other assets to pay its debts as and when they fall due.
The proposed amalgamation of the Gender Equity in Medicine Committee with the Membership Diversity Advisory Group was discussed and referred to management for advice in light of the commitment to streamlining committees generally and reducing duplication between Board and Council committees and College Bodies.
The next Board meeting is a full day meeting face-to-face in Sydney on 19 July 2024.
Kind regards,
Professor Jennifer Martin
Chair, RACP Board.
