Board Communiqué 25 August 2025
A message from the RACP Board to its members
Dear members,
The Board recently took the difficult step of passing a vote of no confidence in the President-elect. We know this decision is unusual, and so we want to explain why.
The issues are not about disagreement on policy. They are about conduct.
The President-elect has:
- engaged in adversarial and disrespectful behaviour
- contributed to a toxic culture at the Board table that has led to the early departure of directors
- diverted significant time and resources away from the College’s core purpose and reform agenda.
These actions have undermined the Board’s ability to govern responsibly and to focus on the reforms members have told us are needed.
As a Board, we have a duty to protect the College and its members. We cannot remove an elected director – only members can do that. What we can do is register our lack of confidence and work with members towards a resolution that restores stability and allows us to get back to the work you expect of us.
In addition, yesterday as the Board struggled to combine transparency with risk to the College, four directors resigned. All independent directors have left the Board.
This is a difficult period, and we know it is unsettling. Our priority now is to move past conflict and deliver the accountable, effective College our members deserve.
