Education Governance

Overview

In June 2024, the Board approved a future education governance model following completion of the Education Governance Review. 

Chart of the Education and Training Committees and Subcommittees.

The transition of education and training committees to the new model has now been completed as part of a 3-staged implementation project. The new model establishes clear roles, accountabilities and reporting lines across committees.

It aligns decision-making with College strategy, strengthens oversight, and supports more consistent and transparent governance across programs.

The structure is designed to:

  • Improve the quality, consistency and timeliness of decision-making
  • Strengthen accountability and reduce duplication or ambiguity across committees
  • Enhance collaboration and coordination across education and training functions
  • Support higher-quality curriculum, assessment and training outcomes
  • Enable more effective identification and management of risks

Lead Education Committees

Training Program Management Committee

Oversees training program governance across divisions, chapters, and faculties.
Assessment Committee

Develops standards and policies to the assessment function across RACP training programs.
Curriculum Improvement & Supervision Advisory Committee

Provides advice and recommendations on development and evaluation of curricula and supervision frameworks.
Continuing Professional Development Committee

Oversees CPD matters relating to RACP Fellows, CPD Users, Trainees and Overseas Trained Physicians across Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.
Accreditation Committee

Oversees accreditation policy and activities for training settings and programs.
Overseas Trained Physicians Committee

Develops standards and policies to ensure consistent process across the training programs.

Evaluation and Feedback

As the model transitions to business-as-usual, we're evaluating its impact and effectiveness as part of our ongoing implementation and continuous improvement approach.

This includes:

  • Regular feedback from committees, Chairs and stakeholders
  • Monitoring the quality, timeliness and consistency of decision-making
  • Assessment of committee effectiveness, including clarity of roles and accountabilities
  • Review of how well the model supports collaboration, risk management and education outcomes

Feedback from these activities will be used to make ongoing improvements to the model. Formal reviews will also check whether the model is achieving its intended outcomes and identify any changes that may be needed.
