Summary

AFOEM is seeking eligible Fellows to represent Victoria on the AFOEM Council and help shape the future of occupational and environmental medicine.

Description

Expressions of interest are open for AFOEM Fellows to fill a casual vacancy for the AFOEM Council as the VIC Regional Representative. The term for this casual vacancy will start immediately following confirmation of appointment and will conclude at the RACP AGM in May 2027, in line with the College election cycle.

The AFOEM Council operates under the AFOEM By-laws (PDF)

The VIC Regional Committee is guided by its Terms of Reference (PDF)

The Regional Representative plays an important role in supporting these governance frameworks and ensuring regional activities align with the strategic priorities of AFOEM and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

This elected position provides an opportunity to contribute to the leadership, governance, and strategic direction of AFOEM while representing the interests and priorities of Fellows and Trainees across Victoria.

The Regional Representative serves as a key link between the AFOEM Council and the regional membership, helping to promote occupational and environmental medicine, support continuing professional development activities, and ensure regional perspectives are reflected in Faculty decision-making. The role also acts as Chair of the AFOEM VIC Regional Committee unless an alternative committee member is approved by AFOEM Council.

This is an excellent opportunity for Fellows with an interest in leadership, governance, advocacy, and the advancement of occupational and environmental medicine to make a meaningful contribution to the Faculty and the profession.

Key responsibilities

The VIC Regional Representative will:
  • attend and actively contribute to AFOEM Council and Regional Committee meetings
  • support effective and collaborative decision-making across the Council and Regional Committee
  • promote strong governance practices within AFOEM
  • assist in aligning regional activities and priorities with the strategic objectives of AFOEM and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
  • identify and respond to emerging issues relevant to occupational and environmental medicine within the region
  • represent the interests of Queensland and Northern Territory Fellows and Trainees
  • provide timely input and responses to requests from AFOEM Council, Regional Committees and other Faculty committees
  • uphold the RACP's policies, values and standards, including commitments to ethical conduct, diversity, inclusion, and the prevention of discrimination and harassment
