Summary

Expressions of interest are open for Fellows to join the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) Examinations Working Group (EWG).

Description

The EWG reports to, and will be chaired by, a member of the AFOEM Faculty Assessment Committee (FAC).

Both the EWG Lead (FAC member) and EWG Member positions are now open.

The FAC:
  • supervises the coordination, development and quality assurance of exams and assessments
  • standardises examiners and assessors
  • oversees examining panels and assessment working groups
  • audits and analyses exam data to inform assessment policy and program improvement

The new AFOEM Advanced Training Curriculum and Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Program has been implemented for new trainees starting in 2026. To support full implementation, the AFOEM Consolidation Written and Practical Examinations must be aligned to the renewed curriculum.

To progress this work, the FAC is establishing the AFOEM Examinations Working Group to:

  • define the purpose, curriculum focus and format of the Consolidation exams
  • develop resources to support the implementation of the Consolidation exams

The AFOEM Examinations Working Group will contribute subject matter expert guidance on assessment design and curriculum alignment. 

The term of this Working Group is 2 years. CPD points are claimable for your involvement.

Responsibilities & Deliverables

EWG Members will:
  • contribute to defining the purpose, blueprint and format of the Consolidation exams
  • participate in blueprint mapping, item review, and development of sample questions and examiner resources
  • support quality assurance activities to ensure examinations meet RACP assessment standards
  • provide expert advice to FAC on feasibility, educational validity and implementation considerations
  • attend Working Group meetings (two annual face‑to‑face meetings plus videoconference meetings)
EWG Lead (FAC Member) will:
  • attend FAC meetings and provide reports and updates as required
  • chair Working Group meetings
  • ensure progress against the approved workplan
  • work closely with Assessment Services staff supporting the Working Group

To be a successful applicant, you must:

  • be at least 2 years post Fellowship
  • have unconditional AHPRA or MCNZ registration as a FAFOEM Occupational and Environmental Medicine Physician
  • have prior involvement in AFOEM examinations (highly desirable)
