Summary

Expressions of Interest are open for 1 NSW AFOEM physician to be a member of the NSW Hospital Industry Action Group

Description

The NSW Hospitals Industry Action Group (HIAG) is seeking a representative. AFOEM members are invited to apply because a focus will be best-practice approaches to elevate WHS culture, systems, and capability across both public and private hospitals together with addressing WHS hazards and risks in hospitals. The HIAG agenda involves providing expert advisory input to SafeWork NSW on regulatory design guidance materials, education initiatives, and opportunities for industry-wide improvement. The HIAG is a healthcare organisation industry group established following an announcement in late 2025 by the Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP, NSW Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Work Health and Safety. This is a significant state-based group to drive coordinated action on priority Work Health and Safety issues affecting hospitals and associated service interfaces, with emphasis on improving safety for workers. It is supported by SafeWork NSW.

The HIAG is ongoing at this stage and meets meet twice per year, either in person or virtually and there may be some out of session responses invited.

The term of member representative appointment is for 2 years initially.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute openly and constructively, sharing insights, data, lessons learned, and real world experience

  • Support and progress agreed action items, including work undertaken between meetings

  • Promote WHS knowledge, messages and outcomes through their professional networks

  • Provide feedback and recommendations on SafeWork NSW programs, consultations, and initiatives relevant to hospital WHS
