Description

The Gender Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee (GEDAC) provides advice and makes recommendations to the College on matters relating to gender equity, diversity and inclusion.   

One, time-limited position is open for:   

  • An RACP Fellow living and working in Aotearoa New Zealand.  

The successful applicant will be nominated by the Aotearoa New Zealand Committee for appointment to GEDAC for the remainder of the current committee term ending July 2027. 

The purpose of the GEDAC is:

  • advising the College on work and activities relating to gender equity, diversity and inclusion
  • reviewing and making recommendations regarding relevant College action plans and reporting on progress
  • liaising and collaborating with College bodies, teams and members to progress gender equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • supporting and engaging with the Advancing Women in Healthcare Leadership (AWHL) program
  • promoting diverse and inclusive representation across College bodies and activities.

Key responsibilities

As a member of the GEDAC you'll:

  • attend and actively contribute to Advisory Committee meetings and discussions
  • provide advice and expertise on gender equity, diversity and inclusion in medicine in the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand contexts
  • contribute to the review of College initiatives relating to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • support engagement and collaboration between GEDAC and relevant College bodies, members and stakeholders
  • champion the value of diverse and inclusive representation across the College
  • act in the interests of the College as a whole.

Skills and experience

Applicants should:

  • demonstrate knowledge of, or experience in, gender equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • demonstrate a commitment to equitable and inclusive practices
  • be able to contribute to strategic and system-level committee discussions and decision-making
  • familiarise themselves with College governance requirements and abide by relevant policies and procedures.

Time commitment

GEDAC will meet for 1 meeting this year via Zoom. It is anticipated that the Committee will hold approximately 2 further meetings before the end of its current term in July 2027.

Committee members are expected to prepare for and attend meetings on a voluntary basis.
