The Deputy Chair provides leadership and expertise in OTP matters in the Division in Australia and in the absence of the Chair, may step up to chair the Paediatrics & Faculties OTP Assessment Committee, of which they are a member. This position will also grant a sitting member role on the OTP Committee, which oversees the OTP assessment subcommittees and is involved with policy and making changes/improvements to guidelines.  

The OTP Assessment Committee play a key role in the assessment of OTPs by determining which physicians and paediatricians can work in Australia. Members of the Committee can have a real impact on health service delivery and quality of care in the Australian health system.

Key responsibilities

• Interviewing OTPs to understand their overseas qualifications, training and experience
• Determining, and sometimes modifying, requirements for OTPs to reach the level of an Australian-trained physician or paediatrician in accordance with guidelines and policies set by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and RACP
• Providing expertise relating to OTP assessment to the MBA, College staff and other College committees (when required)
• Monitoring OTP progress through to Fellowship
• Advising the OTP Team on key initiatives, projects and educational developments (when required)

The Committee meets monthly, up to 12 times per year. Meetings are held via videoconference with 1 face-to-face meeting per year (usually held in Sydney).

Note: Existing Committee Members appointed before 2022 follow 2-year terms (maximum 3 terms, 6 years total). New committee members appointed from 2022 onwards follow 3-year terms (maximum 2 terms, 6 years total).
