Australia Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP) Assessment Committees Interviewers (Neurology)

Date published: Jul 30, 2026, 09:01 AM

Summary

Fellows who are specialists in Neurology are invited to express their interest in becoming interviewers to assist with assessment of Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP).

Description

The OTP Assessment Committees play a key role in the assessment of OTPs by determining which physicians can work in Australia. As part of this process, interviewers may be required to interview overseas-trained physicians (OTPs) to clarify or gather additional information about their specialist assessment application.

Interviewers are paid AUD $400 per interview, plus AUD $40 GST. Interviews are conducted via Zoom and typically take around 1 hour. Following the interview, the completed interview report must be submitted to the RACP within one week.

OTP specialist interviewers play an important role in the assessment process. Key responsibilities include:

  • interviewing OTPs to understand their overseas qualifications, training and experience
  • assisting OTP Assessment Committee interviewers to prepare a report for the RACP
  • providing specialty expertise and advice to the OTP Assessment Committees when required

Interviewers must complete an online learning module before conducting interviews. Details and the enrolment key will be provided once the OTP Team receives a completed Expression of Interest form.

After completing the online learning module, interviewers must observe a minimum of 2 OTP interviews in any subspecialty. The OTP Team will contact interviewers to arrange suitable observation sessions based on availability. Interviewers are welcome to observe more than 2 interviews if they wish.

Once 2 interviews have been observed, the OTP Team will contact interviewers when Neurology applicants require an interview as part of their specialist assessment. Available interview dates and times will be provided based on the availability of OTP Assessment Committee interviewers. If you're unavailable, another interviewer will be contacted and you'll be considered for future interviews.

If you confirm your availability for an interview, you're expected to honour that commitment. Cancellations can cause significant delays for OTP applicants and affect Committee interviewers who have reserved time in their schedules.

If you have any questions about this role or the OTP process, please contact the OTP Team at OTP@racp.edu.au
