Expression of Interest for OTP Interviewers in Gastorenterology

Date published: Oct 8, 2026, 17:34 PM

Summary

Fellows who are specialists in Gastroenterology / Paediatric Gastroenterology are invited to express their interest in becoming interviewers to assist with assessment of Overseas Trained Physicians.

Description

OTP Assessment Committees play a key role in the assessment of OTPs by determining which physicians and paediatricians can work in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Part of this process often involves an interview for clarification and gathering additional information about an OTP’s specialist assessment application. Interviews take approximately 1 hour via Zoom. OTP specialist interviewers play a key role in the assessment process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • interviewing OTPs to understand their overseas qualifications, training and experience
  • assisting the OTP Assessment Committee interviewer(s) in drafting a report to provide to the RACP
  • providing speciality-specific expertise/advice to the OTP Assessment Committees (when required).

Interviewers are required to complete an online learning module. Details and the enrolment key will be shared with you once the OTP Team receives the complete expression of interest form.

Once the online module has been completed, you must attend a minimum of 2 OTP interviews (in any subspecialty) as an observer only. We’ll contact you beforehand regarding availability to observe. You may observe more than 2 interviews if you’d like to gain further experience.

Once you’ve completed the module and observed 2 OTP interviews, we’ll contact you when there are OTPs who require an interview. We’ll provide date and time options based on the availability of our OTP Assessment Committee interviewers. If you’re not available, we’ll email a different specialist interviewer and be in touch for future interviews. If you’re available, please keep this commitment as cancellations cause long delays for OTP applicants and Committee interviewers have reserved time in their calendars for these interviews. Interviewers must complete the interview report within 1 week after the interview. Interviewers are compensated $400AUD plus $40 GST (in Australia) or $375NZD (in Aotearoa New Zealand) per interview.
