Location:
Macquarie University Anatomy & Surgical Skills Lab
Host:
Interventional Pain Management Australia
The Pain & Regional Anaesthesia Track of the Australian Cryoneurolysis Masterclass is a full-day, hands-on cadaver course for clinicians seeking to integrate cryoneurolysis into their procedural practice across the full spectrum of chronic and acute pain indications — including pain physicians, regional and cardiothoracic anaesthetists, interventional radiologists, thoracic and trauma surgeons, intensivists, acute pain teams, and senior trainees in these specialties.
The 2026 program brings together a multidisciplinary Australian and international faculty for an intensive day combining concise didactic teaching with extended cadaver lab practice. Three core procedural areas are covered in depth:
- Intercostal cryoneurolysis for acute rib-fracture pain, post-thoracotomy pain, and chest-wall trauma
- Knee cryoneurolysis for chronic knee osteoarthritis in non-surgical patients, TKA waitlist management, and persistent post-surgical pain referred for pain management
- Shoulder cryoneurolysis for chronic shoulder pain, frozen shoulder, and persistent post-surgical shoulder pain
Hands-on cadaver work is complemented by a live anatomy and ultrasound demonstration on a model — bridging cadaver anatomy to real-world clinic technique, with a focus on patient positioning, landmark identification, ultrasound-guided probe placement, sterile draping, and patient communication.
The day also includes a unique cross-specialty teaching moment: following the concurrent Orthopaedic Knee Track, Professor Vinod Dasa MD (LSU Health, New Orleans) joins the Pain & Anaesthesia faculty in the afternoon — contributing to the knee module and the closing case-discussion panel, and giving registrants direct access to one of the world's leading cryoneurolysis surgeon-educators.
The cadaver lab is structured around small-group rotations with a high faculty-to-participant ratio. Group sizes are intentionally capped to ensure each registrant gets meaningful hands-on time across the full procedural set.
The workshop is hosted at the Macquarie University Anatomy and Surgical Skills Lab (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) — a leading Australian surgical training facility. A detailed final program and faculty-station allocations will be issued to registrants approximately two weeks prior to the workshop.
