The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) is pleased to announce that registrations are now open for the ADS Practical Skills Course for First Year Trainees in Adult Endocrinology.

Format: Online virtual event

Course overview

This 2-day course focuses on the hands-on practical skills required to care effectively for people with diabetes in inpatient and ambulatory clinical settings. It will be facilitated by senior endocrinologists and other diabetes health professionals.

Program highlights

  • 1-hour lecture sessions
  • 1.25–2-hour small group workshops covering:
  • diabetes diet with a focus on carbohydrate counting
  • prescribing medications for type 2 diabetes
  • measuring glucose levels
  • insulin and other injectable therapies
  • managing inpatient glycaemia, including peri-operative management
  • managing the diabetic foot (including ulcer management and footwear)
  • programming insulin pumps (with hands-on experience)
  • diabetes technology downloads (insulin pump/CGM)
  • case studies in Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes
  • diabetes eye examination and retinopathy

Registration details

The registration fee is $154 for both days. Full payment must be made when completing the online registration. Refunds will not be given for cancellations made after 17 February 2025.

  • registration is only open to First Year Advanced Trainees in Adult Endocrinology
  • trainees must be enrolled in the RACP Physicians Training Program in 2025
  • attendance at both days is required to receive a certificate of attendance
  • places are strictly limited—early registration is highly recommended
  • interstate trainees should arrange travel/accommodation as early as possible
