A Practical Guide to Human Health Risk Assessment

Dr Ben Scalley will discuss Human Health Risk Assessment drawing on relevant practical examples from NSW. The talk will include key principles of Health Risk Assessment and some example calculations to further demonstrate the process.
About the presenter
Dr Ben Scalley is the Director of the Environmental Health Branch within NSW Health. His role is diverse and includes the responsibility for regulating drinking water safety, swimming pools, and cooling towers. In addition to this his branch runs programs in Aboriginal communities and training Aboriginal Environmental Health Officers. Lastly he is responsible for the assessment of the health risk of developments such as road tunnels and coal mines as well the assessment of he health risk of specific incidents of chemical contamination.
Previously Dr Scalley worked in Western Australia as a Public Health Physician trainee and in NSW Health as a Junior Medical Officer. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine, has a Master of Public Health with Distinction from the University of Wollongong, an MBBS with honours from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Education.
