Set in the Margaret River Wine Region, Trauma Essentials is a high-level, small-group workshop immersion for doctors, led by expert clinical psychologist Dr Alice Morgan, who has spent 20 years working with complex trauma presentations across public hospitals, refugee teams, medical trauma, veterans, first responders, private psychiatric hospitals, private practice and Doctors without Borders.
Trauma Essentials (Level 1) is a clinically grounded retreat for health professionals who encounter trauma in everyday practice but have had limited formal training in trauma theory or trauma-informed care. This program provides a clear, structured foundation in understanding what trauma is, how it presents across settings and across the lifespan, and how to respond safely and ethically within your professional scope.
This course is not designed to qualify you as a trauma therapist. Instead, it focuses on accurately recognizing trauma, responding with confidence, and understanding when to educate, contain, treat, or refer individuals. For more comprehensive knowledge and interventions, consider joining us for Level 2 or 3.
Over the course of 5 immersive days, participants take part in evidence-based teaching, experiential workshops, applied case discussions, and profession-specific breakout sessions within a reflective retreat setting. The emphasis is on practical clinical decision-making: distinguishing trauma responses from other conditions (such as ADHD, Autism, BPD), delivering suitable psychoeducation, comprehending professional boundaries and ethics and developing referral pathways, all whilst enhancing collaborative, multidisciplinary care.
Structured learning is balanced with time for integration, peer connection, and restoration. Chef-curated meals at wineries, on beaches and amongst a farm settings allow you to experience the region whilst reflecting with peers and nourishing mind and body.
