Physicians across Australia – your voice is urgently needed

The Pharmacy Board of Australia is proposing to endorse the Ahpra registration of pharmacists to prescribe scheduled medicines, including Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 medicines. Doing so would influence patient safety, models of care, prescribing governance, continuity of care, interdisciplinary practice, medico-legal responsibility, and the future role of physicians across the health system.

The RACP is now consulting members, and the College’s response will ideally reflect a broad, informed, specialty-wide contribution from physicians and trainees working across diverse clinical settings.

A strong submission for the public record depends on widespread participation from members with frontline experience in prescribing, complex care, diagnostics, chronic disease management, medicines safety, and multidisciplinary care.

Read the consultation paper and fill the response form by Tuesday, 26 May 2026 to protect your patients.

Please consider sharing this with physician colleagues and trainees across your networks. Thank you for your time and sharing your valued expertise about this important matter.
