New guidance available for occupational and environmental medicine physicians

Occupational and environmental medicine physicians now have access to updated guidance (PDF) to support the increasingly complex demands of contemporary practice.

As the scope of occupational and environmental medicine continues evolving, physicians are often required to balance competing responsibilities and work with multiple stakeholders. This includes workers, employers, health and industrial bodies, judicial authorities and the broader community.

The new 'Best Practice in Occupational and Environmental Medicine' guidance provides practical support for navigating these challenges while maintaining high standards of workplace health practice. It covers key areas including health assessments, hazard identification, legal and regulatory requirements, education and research. It replaces the 2016 Ethical Guidelines for Occupational and Environmental Medicine Physicians.

You can access the guidance and other resources in the Policy & Advocacy library and on the AFOEM webpage.
