AFPHM News - March 2025

A message from your President

Too nervous to commit to a committee but ready for something a little less daunting time-wise?

You can certainly contribute in a small but important way to your Faculty. Now that I've caught your attention, please consider volunteering as an assessor of a trainee Work Place Report (WPR). The next round of WPRs will be queuing up for assessment in April and trainees intending to sit the Oral Examination this year must have their WPRs assessed before 31 July.

Trainees complete WPRs to demonstrate they are capable of producing high-quality written documentation when undertaking public health medicine. These WPRs address competencies in our Advanced Training in Public Health Medicine Program. These reports can span an outbreak investigation; analysis of routinely collected data or evaluation of public health policy for example. Every WPR is marked by two assessors independently. If each assessor’s grade differs, the report will be forwarded on for review by a third assessor. There is a Marking Guide containing eight assessment areas and clear criteria for WPR standards. If, as a trainee, any of your WPRs were late in being assessed, you'll know how important this is! Please support your Faculty and our future Fellows!
