Description

The Flexible Approach to Training in Expanded Settings (FATES 4) General Medicine Horizons project aims to strengthen visibility, distribution and access to General Medicine throughout Australia. The project is funded by the Australian Government and is the first internal FATES project at the RACP.

The project seeks to appoint a Clinical Co-Lead to support the Clinical Lead in the delivery of project objectives. The Co-Lead will be a General Physician practicing and residing in a regional, rural or remote location (Modified Monash Model [MMM] 2–7) and will work in partnership with the Clinical Lead and GenMed Horizons project team to advance the objectives of the GenMed Horizons project, with a particular focus on Objective 4 and the General Medicine Horizons Regional, Rural and Remote (RRR) Special Interest Group (SIG).

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair the GMH RRR SIG and contribute to meeting preparation and post-meeting tasks.
  • Support the development and implementation of the SIG work plan.
  • Provide clinical leadership, strategic advice and stakeholder engagement insights for the GMH project.
  • Contribute to discussions on workforce development, training pathways and healthcare access in General Medicine for regional, rural and remote communities.
  • Support the integration of recommendations and actions of the SIG into relevant RACP committees, organisational structures and operational teams.
  • Represent the views and interests of the RRR General Medicine community to the RACP and its members.

Eligibility

  • The Clinical Co-Lead will be a General Physician practicing and residing in a regional, rural or remote location (Modified Monash Model [MMM] 2–7).
  • Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand Member.
  • RACP Fellowship in General and Acute Care Medicine.
  • Interest in General Medicine workforce and training.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

The appointment will run until February 2028 and will be renumerated. 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant initiative that seeks to strengthen the specialist workforce and improve access to healthcare for communities experiencing workforce shortages.
