About Pomegranate
The Pomegranate Health podcast was launched in May 2015 to discuss all domains of medical expertise, as described in the Professional Practice Framework. For a taste of all these themes take a listen to the samplers in Episode 132 and Episode 125.
Our podcast producer operates with feedback from an editorial group that represents all physician specialties and career stages. You’re welcome to send your own story ideas or feedback to the email address podcast@racp.edu.au.
In addition to the regular documentary style episodes, the [Case Report] series provides a useful model for presentation of long-cases at the BPT clinical examinations. These are developed by Trainees and New Fellows to assist peer learning.
The [IMJ On-Air] episodes feature authors published in the College's Internal Medicine Journal interviewed by expert editors and reviewers. Likewise, the [Journal Club] episodes showcase the work of RACP members published in other high-impact academic journals.
The [Contagious Conversations] series has been developed by members of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases to share evolving evidence for the practice of ID medicine. Occasionally, we will also share a [Guest Lecture] presented by captivating speakers where these presentations translate well to the audio format.
Pomegranate Health has grown into one of the College’s most popular resources for members. The average episode is downloaded 3-4000 times within a month of publication and double that over the first year. It is among the top 5% of most popular podcasts available on the Buzzsprout platform, which is fairly representative of the industry as a whole.
Approximately 70 percent of listeners are located in Australia and 9 percent in Aotearoa New Zealand. The remaining 21 percent are split evenly between the traditional anglosphere and the rest of the world.
Pomegranate Health is a great place to build collegiality across the RACP, and to showcase the great work of College members to the rest of the medical community and the public.
Why a pomegranate?
The fruit has featured on the coat of arms of the Royal College of Physicians of London since 1546. It is an ancient symbol of sanctity, fertility, and regeneration in all the major religions. Listen to Ep135 for the unlikely tale of how it made its way from ancient myth onto this podcast by way of Henry VIII.
