Description

The Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) Stage B Practical Examination tests trainee clinical skills in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the end of their Stage B training. In 2026, this exam is scheduled to run over 2 days: Saturday, 14 to Sunday 15 November (subject to final candidate numbers).

The Clinical Patient Coordinator will work alongside the Stage B Practical Lead Coordinator, recruiting and screening local patients (between 8-14 patients, depending on candidate numbers) for the clinical stations, in line with the topics chosen. Each patient requires a brief case scenario written and clinical notes for examiner marking guides. Potential case types include, but are not limited to:

  • Respiratory
  • MSK (upper/lower limb)
  • MSK neuro
  • Abdominal
  • Cardiac

We'll take into consideration the availability of patients to the Clinical Patient Coordinator.

About you

To be a successful applicant, you must:
  • have unconditional AHPRA or MCNZ registration as an Occupational & Environmental Medicine Physician
  • be a resident of one of the following Australian cities: Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide. Sydney-based Fellows will also be considered.
Desirable criteria (not essential):
  • experience as an AFOEM FAC member and/or
  • experience as an examiner at past AFOEM Stage B Practical Examinations

Key responsibilities

  • Recruit patients, either directly or via other professional contacts, and screen them for suitability to the question topics.
  • Prepare the clinical case scenarios for submission to the Lead Coordinator.
  • Coordinate the provision of clinical station medical equipment and media for the examination in collaboration with the Lead Coordinator and the Executive Officers of Exam Production and Delivery.
  • Liaise with the RACP Executive Officer of Exam Delivery regarding patient contact and any required provisions for patients on examination day.

The RACP and the Stage B Practical Lead Coordinator will provide extensive support in this role as the year progresses.

This role is open to job-sharing arrangements, should 2 Fellows from the same state wish to submit a joint expression of interest.
