A review of the proposed curriculum standards and learning, teaching and assessment programs will take place to ensure the concepts and traditions of te Ao Māori are reflected across our curricula.

Specialist contractor

The specialist contractor developed an initial draft specialty curriculum in line with College-approved educational models and templates, quality standards, and project deadlines.

Dr Peggy Chi Chen, FRACP | Specialist contractor
Peggy Chen is a consultant dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon based in New Plymouth, Aotearoa New Zealand. She has been a member of the Advanced Training Committee (Dermatology division) for the past 5 years. In addition to her clinical work, Peggy is a committee member of the New Zealand Society of Mohs Surgery and an associate editor of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology. She's heavily involved in teaching junior doctors and general practitioners and has recently started a podcast channel to educate the New Zealand public on skin health.

The Curriculum Review Group reviewed and refined the draft curriculum in preparation for broad consultation.

Members

Dr Karen Agnew, FRACP | Chair
Karen is a consultant dermatologist working at Greenlane Clinical Centre, Starship Children's Health, and Auckland City Hospital. She attended Auckland Medical School and completed her specialist dermatology training in Auckland and at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London, UK.

Karen held consultant positions at Charing Cross and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals in London for 10 years before returning to Auckland. In London, she was also an Honorary Consultant at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she undertook research. Her specialist interests include paediatric dermatology, skin cancer, and medical dermatology.

Karen is an enthusiast for training, spending 15 years sitting on training committees in Aotearoa and North London, England. She chaired the Aotearoa Advanced Training Committee in Dermatology for 3 years, from 2019 to 2022, during the COVID-affected years. Improving dermatology training in Aotearoa New Zealand has been a longstanding goal for her.

Dr Diana Purvis, FRACP | Deputy Chair
Diana is a paediatric dermatologist at Starship Hospital and in private practice. She completed training programmes both in paediatrics and in dermatology with the RACP. She is currently Chair of the Aotearoa New Zealand Advanced Training Committee for Dermatology.

Dr Mairi-Clare Ferguson
Mairi-Clare is a dermatologist and Mohs surgeon working in Christchurch New Zealand.

Dr Monique Mackenzie MBChB, FRACP, FNZDSI
Dr Mackenzie (Ngāti Tuwharetoa) is a graduate of the University of Otago. She completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery before undertaking her first Fellowship in General Practice with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

Following a passion for treating skin diseases, she completed further training in general physician at Waikato Hospital and began advanced training in dermatology in 2019. Her specialist training included posts at both Auckland and Greenlane hospitals before she moved overseas for additional training at Brisbane Skin in Australia and University Hospitals Birmingham in the United Kingdom.

Monique is now a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and a Fellow of the New Zealand Dermatology Society (FNZDSI). She is currently a consultant at Skin Centre, Tauranga, and a visiting specialist to Wellington and Hutt hospitals.

Monique was awarded the RACP Indigenous Scholarship in 2019 and has presented at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

Dr Geetika Seth
Geetika completed her M.D. in Dermatology in India and moved to Aotearoa New Zealand where she completed her RACP basic training and is currently pursuing advanced training in dermatology. She is also undertaking a Fellowship in Dermatopathology at Boston University.

She loves teaching, conducting research, and being actively involved in academics.

Dr Harmony Thompson
Harmony graduated from the University of Otago and completed her basic physician training at Christchurch Hospital. She subsequently worked in Auckland and Hamilton in the field of dermatology. She is now working in the United Kingdom as part of her RACP dermatology domain 2 training.
