CPD Exemption and Variation Policy

The CPD Exemption and Variation Policy sets out the formal policy principles and requirements that apply to requests for exemption or variation from RACP CPD Program requirements. The RACP recognises that CPD Participants may experience exceptional circumstances that affect their ability to meet annual CPD requirements. This policy provides the governance framework for considering exemption and variation requests in a fair, consistent and transparent manner.

Purpose of the policy

The purpose of this policy is to outline when and how exemptions or variations from CPD requirements may be considered.

The policy is intended to:

  • support fairness and consistency in decision-making
  • recognise circumstances where participation in CPD may not be possible, or may need to be adjusted
  • ensure transparency and accountability
  • maintain the integrity of the RACP CPD Program
  • support alignment with regulatory reporting requirements in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand

What the policy covers

At a high level, the policy addresses:

  • the circumstances where an exemption or variation may be considered
  • automatic exemptions from CPD requirements
  • exceptional circumstances that may support an exemption or variation request
  • application and evidence requirements
  • governance and oversight of exemption and variation processes
  • CPD compliance and reporting requirements

Operational processes for applying for an exemption or variation are addressed through participant-facing guidance and application information.

Exemption and variation

The policy covers both exemptions and variations.

An exemption may apply where a CPD Participant is unable to participate in the CPD Program for a full CPD year.

A variation may apply where a CPD Participant is unable to meet some CPD requirements due to exceptional circumstances but may still be required to complete adjusted or pro-rata CPD requirements.

Exemption and variation requests are assessed on an individual basis and must be supported by appropriate evidence.

Governance and review

The CPD Exemption and Variation Policy is:

  • approved through formal College governance processes
  • subject to legal review
  • overseen through relevant CPD Program governance arrangements

The policy may be reviewed and updated as required.
