National snapshot of antimicrobial resistance and use released

Description
The Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC) released the Sixth Australian report on antimicrobial use and resistance in human health (AURA report). It is the first AURA report authored by the CDC and draws together national data from hospitals, residential aged care and the wider community between 2022 and 2024. The AURA report shows Australia supplied 23.2 million antibiotic prescriptions under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in 2024, a 4.8 per cent increase on the previous year – while reports of critical antibiotic resistance rose by 25.2 per cent over the same period.

Kids with arthritis can't wait. They should be heard, seen and diagnosed early. Anything less risks lifelong pain and disability. Juvenile arthritis, correctly termed Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is a painful autoimmune disease affecting the joints and sometimes the eyes, skin, muscles and internal organs. If not detected and treated early, it can result in chronic pain and permanent disability from joint damage and/or loss of vision.
