New curriculum - Trainee orientation resource
This resource provides the information Basic Trainees need to get started with their training journey using the RACP’s new curricula. Trainees should aim to complete this requirement within the first 6 months of training
Entry into training program
Application
First year trainees starting Basic Training program need to apply for entry into the relevant training program through TMP. Trainees need to demonstrate (and provide evidence where applicable) that they have met the program entry criteria.
Trainees can submit rotation plans and nominate their supervisors in TMP while waiting for approval of their entry application.
Approval
DPEs and/or Training Program Coordinators need to approve applications for entry into training. See the Setting/Network DPE/TPC guide on how to approve an application (PDF) for more information.
The process is as follows:
- Receive a TMP-generated email notification once a trainee applies for Basic Training at your setting.
- Log into TMP and navigate to ‘My assigned actions’. You or your Training Program Coordinator (TPC) can review trainees’ applications and approve, decline or request more information.
- Medical education staff assigned a TPC role are granted access to trainee TMP records to support the functions of the DPE.
Rotation plan
The rotation plan enables trainees to self-assess learning gaps, curriculum needs, and local opportunities, fostering a shared understanding of rotation goals with the supervisor. It'll help to determine how time spent in training meets the clinical or professional experience requirements for a program.
Trainees need to log into TMP and navigate to the ‘Training plan’ tab to submit rotation plan(s) for each of their rotations. Trainees can re-submit a rotation plan after the rotation starts if there are changes to rotations at a later date. If a trainee is interrupting their training, this should also be submitted as a rotation plan in TMP.
Nominating supervisors
Basic Trainees should navigate to the ‘Training plan’ tab in TMP to:
- nominate an Education Supervisor (ES), under ‘Program Level Supervisor’
- nominate a Rotation Supervisor (RS), under a Rotation plan
Watch this short video on how a Basic Trainee nominates an Education Supervisor in TMP
This can be updated later if a Basic Trainee doesn't yet know who their supervisors are.
